Sunny Enchantment

Photobucket

First and foremost, I want to say hello! to all of my new followers. Since the darling Elizabeth of Delightfully Tacky announced me the winner of her Delightful Giveaway (which is a free large ad on her site for the month of February!), my blog stats have tripled (the ad isn't even up yet!) and I am happy as a clam about it. If you're just stopping by, that's so cool too! Hope you like what you see <3.

Last night, I was planning today's outfit to shoot without ever checking the forecast. And lucky for me, the weather today was beyond gorgeous. It felt like the beginning of spring. I drove around listening to Screeching Weasel, happy as ever to have the day off from work to spend outside. I was honestly kind of warm after wearing my cardigan for a while.

I shot in a very public location today. Surprisingly, I didn't feel shy at all about it! Photographers pass through the trails here all the time, and it was cool to give them a smile and a "hello" while I stood there in front of my tripod, remote in hand. They may have been thinking, "What is this silly girl doing here in heels?" but.. that's okay. I'm so happy about the way my photos from today came out. I even played around with my Diana + lens for a little bit. Honestly, I didn't want this shoot to end.

This dress is new (to me). I just found it at Island Thrift about a week ago. I had a Free People dress in hand, but they were asking a bit much for it seeing as the dress was pretty worn. I told myself if I didn't find anything better, I would buy the Free People dress. It really was pretty. But then I found this snazzy little number and it was love at first sight, for a fraction of the price. I wish I could wear it every day.

This location is one of my favorite spots, ever. It's called the David Weld Sanctuary, and there have been plenty of times where this place has served as a personal sanctuary. I drive here all year round, whenever I need to clear my head, or just to breathe some fresh air and take in nature. There's a cliff that over looks the water, and a path down to the beach. Andrew took me here on one of our first dates, at night, in the middle of winter. It was really sweet, and although my night vision isn't so hot - the moon was super bright. We sat on the aforementioned cliff and talked. And then we got tacos and ate them in the car :)

This outfit felt kind of romantic to me. I love the deep red patent leather shoes with the shimmery silver tights (which are about a shade lighter than my skin. So that's cool!)
I imagined myself sitting on this bench, waiting for my Prince Charming.

And then I laughed at myself and realized there was mud on my heels.

Weekend Update: Assisting Ashley!

Typically, my weekends look a lot like this:
Photobucket

And it's cool, I do tend to get a lot done creatively. But this weekend was busy busy with my brand new friend Ashley Valla. And it was a lot of fun. Girl needed an assistant, and I enthusiastically volunteered. So on Saturday, we took the train into Brooklyn and did a shoot for her friend Gaby's portfolio. Gaby moved here from California not to long ago and is starting out as a clothing designer. I got to see her beautiful clothes as well as meet her beautiful model, Julia.

Once everything was shot, the four of us ventured through Brooklyn Heights to Chipotle and feasted while talking about girl things, like boys and tattoos and bands. Then Ashley and I headed home, and had some time to stop for coffee at Tim Horton's while waiting for our train at the Jamaica station. We watched people coming and going from the air train terminal while getting our caffeine fix. She's a big coffee drinker, like me. This is the start of a beautiful friendship.

Today I drove over to Ashley's, we stopped at Starbucks, and met up with Stephanie of Fashion Roll to shoot some outfits. She was so sweet! And the day flew by as we shot look after look, at location after location.

It was so fun to be able to "talk blog" with somebody, and I'm totally looking forward to shooting next weekend also. The entire weekend was like a creative jump start. Photography, fashion, design. It was just really refreshing and fun. I'm so lucky to be given the chance to meet so many great people, and I'm glad I'm not holding myself back anymore. Because there was a point a few years ago where I would never have done this. I was so insecure and shy. I've definitely come out of my shell and built up a lot of confidence over the years. It's the end result of just doing more and seeing more and saying more. Blogging has kept me motivated as well recently, and it was especially cool to be able to meet somebody who does the same.

All in all, A+ weekend! Can't wait to see where this goes.

Flashback Friday

It is just a miserable day out there. Gray and windy, lots of rain. Plus I woke up ten minutes before I had to leave for work, so here I am in a hoodie and a thermal, not feeling like the best version of myself. My sleeping patterns have been all wonky lately. It's time for one of those head to toe life make overs. Last night I went grocery shopping at Target and got a ton of really healthy, yummy stuff. And vitamins. And new mascara, two pairs of tights and two pairs of boot socks (They were on sale!). Target is so dangerous. But anyway, I will be feeling better soon. That's optimism! And that brings me to this week's Flashback Friday theme. Brought to you by my fortune cookie from craft night this week.

I'm so ready for the bleakness of winter to end and make way for warmer, breezy sunny days. I was just about to really get going on my outfit posts and this weather is kind of putting a damper on things ;)

Here are some of my favorite photos from springs past.

Thrift Haul

Photobucket

Since Island Thrift has opened, my shoe game has increased dramatically. I've wanted some kind of t-strap shoe for a while now. $7, brand new. Bam.

Can you become addicted to thrifting?
